蘋果將新一代的Apple M4處理器由iPad Pro作為首發裝置，不過可預期接下來Apple M4也將用在MacBook Air、入門版Macbook Pro等產品，然而根據Apple M4的晶片掃描的結果，也許搭載M4晶片的下一代MacBook Air有望獲得更多的Thunderbolt 4連接埠。

根據對比Apple M3與Apple M4的晶片掃描結果，發現Apple M4的Thunderbolt 4控制器自M3的兩個提高到4個，雖然對於僅有單一Thunderbolt 4的iPad Pro等同沒有影響，然而若用在筆電或Mac mini微型電腦就有更多的可能性；一則是搭載M4的機型最高有可能提供4個Thunderbolt 4，或是將兩個控制器合併使單一通道頻寬倍增，將有助提升螢幕解析度與更新率，當然前提是Apple M4的DPU(Display Processing Unit)也能支援更高解析度與高更新。
