Steam Deck 除了將 PC 級的硬體架構濃縮在掌機尺寸，同時結合 Steam 握有的平台資源優勢提供體驗最佳化的功能，在發表後造成轟動，也獲得為數相當的訂單； Steam 除了使用 AMD 訂製的 APU 外，相較同類型產品直接將記憶體顆粒鑲嵌在主機板上， Steam 為了產品的可維修性仍提供 M.2 2230 規格的 SSD 插槽，近期玩家社群有人發現只要動點手腳 Steam Deck 即可換成更容易取得的 M.2 2240 SSD ，不過 Steam 設計師 Lawrence Yang 在推特回應千萬不要這麼做。

由於機構空間因素， Steam Deck 使用尺寸較小的 M.2 2230 SSD ，不過日前 Steam Deck 玩家社群發現只要稍微挪動纜線與移除散熱片，就可挪出更多空間安裝 M.2 2240 SSD ，同時換裝 M.2 2240 SSD 後，也比起原本主機的 M.2 2230 SSD 更快，但發文者也指稱安裝後雖然不會干涉周邊機構，不過散熱器似乎有輕微變形。

▲雖然 M.2 2240 容易取得且效能比 Steam Deck 原本的 SSD 出色，但更大的耗電與發熱量容易導致系統電源 IC 處於高負載、進而影響主機壽命
但根據 Lawrence Yang 的回應， Steam Deck 選用的 SSD 除了尺寸規格也考慮過發熱問題，換裝 M.2 2240 SSD 的問題並非出在散熱器變形，而是由於更高傳輸效能的 SSD 造成更高的發熱，以及移除散熱片對散熱的影響，將有可能使鄰近的電源 IC 溫度飆升，導致 Steam Deck 的壽命衰減，尤其如此小型的主機更容易出現廢熱不易排出的問題。
