Tesla 與 SpaceX 創辦人 Elon Musk 本身是 Twitter 的熱衷使用者，但同時也經常批評 Twitter 的各種政策與功能，先前也傳出 Elon Musk 有意自行打造類似的社群服務，不過稍早 Elon Musk 直接出手購買 Twitter 股份成為最大個人股東，現在也被 Twitter 任命成為董事會成員。

根據 Twitter 交給美國證交所的文件， Elon Musk 將成為 II 類董事，任期將至 2024 年為主，在任期內至結束後的 90 天內，受益所有人不得超過發行股份的 14.9% 。 Elon Musk 入股後， Twitter 也預計將在他的督促推動大量的改革計畫。
對 Elon Musk 而言， Twitter 就是他做為對外宣傳最大的管道，比起各類公關活動更有效率，不得不說 Elon Musk 真的是有錢就可以任性的典範，畢竟比起創立新社群，直接入主 Twitter 促進改革可能會更有效率一點。
