職場中，常常會需要寫商業書信感謝上司、同事、客戶、合作夥伴，碰到對象是外國人的時候，英文書寫就得派上用場了。寫信時，用膩了 thank you，想要換成別的字，又擔心用錯嗎？最喜歡把 thank you 改成 appreciate，但又沒辦法掌握這個字的用法嗎？今天就一次學會吧！
情境對話
今天 David 要寫信感謝合作夥伴的幫忙，寫完後請 John 老師幫忙檢查。John 老師看完後指出以下這句話寫錯了，David 卻一頭霧水，不知道該怎麼修改，大家一起來動動腦吧：
I appreciate you.（我感謝你。）
這句話要怎麼改才對呢？
破解 NG 英文
首先，appreciate 這個單字的用法用錯囉！appreciate 可以用來表示「感激、感謝」，在英英字典的解釋是「to be grateful for (something)」，有沒有發現蛛絲馬跡？appreciate 是用來感謝「一件事情」，不是感謝「人或對象」，所以不能說：
I appreciate you. (X)
要記得在 appreciate 後面加上一件事情（名詞或動名詞），所以要改成：
I appreciate it.（我非常感謝。）
I really appreciate that.（我很感激那件事。）
I appreciate your help very much.（我非常感激你的幫忙。）
We really appreciate all your effort.（我們非常感謝你做的所有努力。）
許多情境下都能運用到 appreciate 這個字喔：
I would appreciate it if you keep it a secret.（如果你保密的話我會非常感激。）
I appreciate you taking the time to meet with me.（我很感激你花時間和我見面。）
I appreciate that he stood by me when I most needed it.（我感謝他在我最需要的時候站在我這邊。）
It's important to appreciate what you have, not think about what you don't have.（要感激你所有的，而不是想著你所沒有的，這很重要。）
除此之外，也不一定要用 appreciate 這個單字，還有很多說法能表達感謝：
Thank you for your help.（謝謝你的幫忙。）
Thank you so much for coming.（非常感謝你來。）
I'm honored to work with you.（能和你合作我感到很光榮。）
I'm grateful that we have a chance to work together.（我很感激我們有機會能合作。）
I'm very grateful for our opportunity to work together.（我超級感激我們有機會能合作。）
