常見天文詞彙
◎ universe 宇宙
Many scientists claim that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe; however, I won’t believe it until I see real proof.（許多科學家聲稱宇宙其他地方還有智慧生物存在；然而，在看到真正的證據之前我都不會相信。）
◎ galaxy 星系
星雲、星團、恆星等組成的巨大集合體，而地球所處的星系是銀河系（ Milky Way）。
Recent advances in telescope technology allow astronomers to capture beautiful images of distant galaxies.（望遠鏡科技的最新進展，讓天文學家得以捕捉遙遠星系的美麗影像。）
◎ nebula 星雲
太空中塵埃（dust）與氣體（gas）聚集的地方。
◎ star cluster 星團
恆星組成的集合體。
◎ star 恆星
地球所處的恆星系統是太陽系（solar system）
◎ planet 行星
繞著（orbit）太陽轉動的天體。太陽系的八大行星為：
● Mercury 水星
● Venus 金星
● Earth 地球
● Mars 火星
● Jupiter 木星
● Saturn 土星
● Uranus 天王星
● Neptune 海王星
Planets located in the habitable zone are at the right distance from their stars and thus are more likely to have liquid water on their surfaces.（位於適居帶的行星與恆星距離適中，因此表面更容易有液態水的存在。）
◎ satellite 衛星
繞著行星運轉的天體。
◎ comet 彗星
冰塊、塵埃等組成的天體。
According to NASA, a skull-shaped comet is set to fly past Earth around Halloween.（據 NASA 所說，一顆骷顱頭形狀的彗星預計在萬聖節附近飛越地球。）
◎ meteoroid 流星體
在太空中飛行的岩石碎片。經過大氣層（atmosphere）時會燃燒，形成流星（meteor / shooting star），燃燒未完全落至地面，成為隕石（meteorite）。
Thousands of stargazers stood and stared in silence as the dazzling meteor shower lit up the night sky.（當絢爛的流星雨點亮夜空，上千名觀星者佇立著、靜靜凝視著。）
